EAA e-Conference on Data Science & Data Ethics

The European Actuarial Academy (EAA) is pleased to announce the 8th EAA e-Conference on 'Data Science & Data Ethics', taking place online on 11 May 2027. The conference will bring together perspectives from across the international actuarial and data science community on how AI and data-driven methods are changing actuarial practice. 
 

AI, Data Science and Data Ethics in Actuarial Practice

AI and data science are reshaping actuarial work at speed. New tools open up opportunities for modelling, automation and decision-making, while at the same time raising questions about reliability, governance, regulation, professional judgement and where actuarial expertise adds most value.

Across markets and organisations, actuaries are facing many of the same challenges: Which approaches are proving useful in practice? What risks need to be managed? How can new methods be applied responsibly? And what will these developments mean for the role of actuaries in the years ahead? The 2027 e-Conference will bring together practical experience and forward-looking perspectives to help the actuarial community navigate what comes next.
 

Share Your Expertise and Help Shape the Programme

Do you have an approach, case study, research finding, lesson learned or perspective that could help other actuaries? We invite actuaries, data scientists, researchers and practitioners working at the intersection of data and actuarial science to submit a proposal. 

You do not need to have all the answers: insights from implementation, unresolved challenges and well-founded ideas about future developments can be just as valuable.

As a speaker, you can present your work to an international actuarial audience and contribute your experience to a programme focused on the questions and challenges shaping the profession.

Date: Tuesday, 11 May 2027.
Format: Online event with live presentations via Zoom.
Audience: An international audience, primarily actuaries, as well as data science professionals, researchers, regulators and other experts interested in AI, data science and actuarial practice.

The programme will combine keynote presentations with selected contributions from this Call for Speakers.
 

Suggested Topics for Submission:

• AI and data science in actuarial practice
  • Practical use cases in insurance, pensions and risk management; moving from pilots to implementation and integrating AI and data science into actuarial workflows
  • Generative AI, agentic AI and automation in actuarial work
  • Predictive modelling, machine learning and explainable AI
• Data, models and technology
  • Alternative, unstructured and synthetic data; data quality and data governance
  • Big data and advanced modelling approaches, including applications beyond traditional actuarial fields
• The evolving role of actuaries
  • How AI and data science are changing actuarial judgement, processes and required skills
  • Collaboration between actuaries, data scientists and AI specialists
  • New opportunities for actuaries in emerging AI and data science roles
  • AI: a threat to human potential or a tool that can help unlock it
  • Actuarial expertise and data science applications beyond traditional fields
• AI governance, risk, regulation and ethics
  • Governance, data ethics, fairness and non-discrimination, privacy and transparency
  • Regulatory and supervisory developments
  • Model risk, human oversight, cyber, operational and third-party/model-provider risks

The list is not exhaustive. If your idea fits the overall theme and is relevant to an actuarial audience, we encourage you to submit it.
 

Submission Guidelines

Please send your submission for a presentation at the EAA e-Conference on 'Data Science & Data Ethics' including an abstract (approx. half a page) and a brief speaker profile of the presenter(s) to submissions@actuarial-academy.com. Please use this Word template for your submission.

To help us understand and assess your idea, please briefly cover four points in your abstract: (1) the topic or question you will address, (2) what you plan to present, (3) why it is relevant to an actuarial audience, and (4) the main insights or takeaways participants can expect. Your presentation time at the conference will be 30 minutes including Q&A. The language of the e-Conference will be English.

Submission deadline: 14 January 2027. 
After the deadline, the submissions will be reviewed and all applicants will receive feedback.

Estimated programme publication date: 1 February 2027. 
Participation in the e-Conference is free of charge for all participants in 2027. Our experience has shown that presentation slots work best with one or two speakers.
