Generative AI Crash Course for Actuaries

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been revolutionizing various industries, and the actuarial field is no exception. Generative AI, in particular, has the potential to transform the way actuaries work by enabling them to generate new data, models, and insights. With the advancement of Generative AI techniques, actuaries now have access to powerful tools that can enhance their predictive modeling capabilities, automate repetitive tasks, improve data quality, and improve the accuracy of risk assessments. Through this course, actuaries will learn about the fundamental concepts of generative models, including Transformers, Variational Autoencoders, Generative Adversarial Networks, Large Language Models, and Diffusion Models. They will also explore real-world applications of these models in the actuarial field, such as knowledge base Q&A, modelling coding assistance, data augmentation through synthetic data or feature engineering, fraud detection & object detection, and named entity recognition.

Participants

This course is designed for actuaries with understanding of machine learning concepts and a desire to delve deeper into Generative AI. The session is potentially interesting for a wide range of professionals working in the fields of Risk Management, Products Design, Reserving and Finance. Participants will need access to Google Colaboratory and a stable internet connection to fully engage with the content.

Technical Requirements
Please check with your IT department if your firewall and computer settings support web session participation (the programme Zoom will be used for this online training). Please also make sure to join the web session with a stable internet connection.

Purpose and Nature

The purpose of this course is to equip actuaries with a solid understanding of Generative AI concepts and their potential applications in the actuarial field. The course aims to bridge the gap between the technical aspects of Generative AI and the practical needs of actuaries. By the end of this course, participants will be able to identify opportunities to leverage Generative AI in their work and develop strategies for implementing these technologies in their organizations.

Language

The language of the web session will be English.
